Basal Conditions
From Interactive System for Ice sheet Simulation
There's a whole world going on underground. Tom Waits
The conditions at the basal boundary are as important in controlling ice sheet behavior as they are difficult to assess from field observations. Considerable effort has gone into constructing models that attempt to predict what the basal conditions ought to be. The attached file summarizes some recent work in this vein - focussed primarily on the case of warm ice flowing over a porous bed. (The first 10 pages are reasonably coherent and are intended as a starting point for discussion - the rest of the document is made up of assorted notes left over from various related talks elsewhere.)
