October 28, 2009 - x (surfvelx) and y (surfvely) components of surface velocity (from Joughin, Smith, Howat, and Scambos; in prep) were added to the Greenland data set.  The values of the corresponding surface velocity magnitude variable (surfvelmag) were also modified (since we are now using an improved interpolation procedure.)  The values of the latitude and longitude variables were also changed; There were inaccurate values along the outside edges of the data.  For values not on an edge the differences between the new latitude and longitude values and the old latitude and longitude values are of the order 1e-5 (degrees).  On the edges, however, the differences are typically of the order 1e-2 and are as large as 0.14 in one of the corners.  The dimension "level" was eliminated since it is currently unused.  The dimension and variable "temptimes" was also eliminated since it duplicated the variable "oisotopestimes."  Some of the meta data was modified to be clearer, more complete, self consistent, and conform to standards.  The current version of the Greenland data set on October 28, 2009 is Greenland_5km_v0.93.nc. - Glen Granzow

March 4th, 2009 - Added new versions of the Antarctica and Greenland NetCDF files to include full sources and did some minor cleaning of the files. -BHand

March 8th, 2009 - Swapped out the PARCA precipitation field for an improved precipitation field provided by Bea Csatho. -BHand

March 20th, 2009 - Added BEDMAP_plus data into the Antarctica master data file (data courtesy of Hamish D Pritchard and the BAS) - Added basal heat flux and Bamber topography + bathymetry to the Greenland data set, data was provided by Ed Bueler. -BHand

March 24th, 2009 - Added a parameterisation of the present day mean annual air temperature for Greenland to the data set. -BHand

April 5th, 2009 - Made some major changes in the Antarctica data set. It includes two new fields, balance velocity and melt data for the Ross ice streams. A move was made to a 1200 by 1200 grid to help with some continental shelf being cut off the Eastern edge of the continent. The projection and lower left corner remain the same. Ice shelves were previously incorrect and those have been updated. A new mask file was created to use with the new data to remove ice shelves if desired. An error was fixed in the temperature and sea level time series, these now display the correct number of years for both series. -BHand

April 20th, 2009 - Added SPECmap and GRIP data files for the last 125kyr to the Greenland data file. Corrected the temperature parameterisation calculation for artm in Greenland as well, the incorrect longitude was being used. Made some metadata corrections. -BHand

April 21st, 2009 - Put in corrected topg data for Greenland. Added the GRIP oisotope time series file for Greenland as well. -BHand

June 19th, 2009 - Added new surface elevation, thickness mask to the Antarctica data set. Thickness is now calculated using the new surface elevation from GLAS/ICESat. For ice shelves, the bathymetry is dug if Hfloat is larger than the difference between the surface and the bed. For Antarctica with ice shelves, there are currently problems with the thickness and topography fields. - BHand

July 6th, 2009 - Added new surface elevation provided by J.A. Griggs and J.L. Bamber, and a new thickness field. Grounded ice is calculated from the new surface elevation and BedMAP_plus. Included in the thickness is a new shelf thickness product, also provided by J.A. Griggs and J.L. Bamber. Bed is dug for the new thickness field where it is needed. Note that the shelf data is a beta product and not yet final. A few other minor changes: divided the melt data by 1000, it was given in mm, but labeled as meters, and changed the last two points of SPECMAP to 0 for consistency. -BHand

July 27th, 2009 - Added a balance field to Greenland created from presprcp (van der Veen, C. J., D. H. Bromwich, B. Csatho, and C. Kim, 2001.) and the thickness field (Bamber, J.L., R.L. Layberry, S.P. Gogenini. 2001.) using an acc/abl field from the Glimmer/CISM model.

July 29th, 2009 - For version 0.7 of Antarctica adding an additional basal heat flux field from the Fox Maule et al 2005 paper, thanks to Cathrine Fox Maule for providing the data. The Shapiro basal heat flux is still present in the data set. Both are labeled and up for examination, and there is currently no default basal heat flux field. -BHand

August 21st, 2009 - Added a new surface velocity field to Greenland data. It was donated by Ian Joughin and covers a good portion of Greenland. A full description is in the data references. Data from "Joughin, Smith, Howat, and Scambos, in prep". -BHand

August 25th, 2009 - For Greenland combined a new precipitation(Burgess et al. 2009) field with the old one. The new precipitation only covers permanent ice. It was extended using the previous data set and interpolated to smooth the edges. -BHand

January 20, 2010 - A "developmental" data set for Greenland (Greenland_5km_dev1.0.nc) was added to the wiki. This data set incorporates bed elevation data in the vicinity of Jakobshavn Glacier from the Center for Remote Sensing of Ice Sheets (CReSIS). - Glen Granzow

February 2, 2010 - Climate data from Ettema et al. (2009) was included in the Greenland developmental data set. This changed the values for near-surface air temperature (in a variable called "airtemp2m" in the developmental set as opposed to "presartm" in the standard data set) and precipitation. In addition there are now fields for surface temperature, runoff, and surface mass balance. The current version of the Greenland developmental data set on February 2, 2010 is Greenland_5km_dev1.1.nc - Glen Granzow

April 7, 2010 - A "developmental" data set for Antarctica (Antarctica_5km_dev1.0.nc) was added to the wiki. This is a major revision of the SeaRISE data set using data from Anna Le Brocq et al and will (it is hoped) resolve the inconsistencies in the standard data set. - Glen Granzow

April 14, 2010 - The "Present Day Greenland" wiki page presently allows users to download any of three data sets:
(1) an "Obsolescent Data Set" incuding Glen Granzow's incorporation of the Cresis Jakobshavn bed data but NOT including Janneke Ettema et al's climate data (This data set is Greenland_5km_dev1.0.nc),
(2) a "Standard Data Set" incuding Glen Granzow's incorporation of the Cresis Jakobshavn bed data AND Janneke Ettema et al's climate data (This data set, Greenland_5km_v1.1.nc, is the same as Greenland_5km_dev1.1.nc except for the name change and one change to the metadata indicating that it is currently the "standard"), and
(3) a new "Developmental Data Set" including Ute Herzfeld's incorporation of the Cresis Jakobshavn bed data and Janneke Ettema et al's climate data (This data set is Greenland_5km_dev1.2.nc). - Glen Granzow

August 27, 2010 - The meta data for the surface velocity fields "surfvelx", "surfvely", and "surfvelmag" in the Greenland data sets Greenland_5km_dev1.0.nc, Greenland_5km_v1.1.nc, Greenland_5km_dev1.2.nc were updated to reference the recent paper: Joughin I., Smith B.E., Howat I.M., Scambos T., Moon T., "Greenland flow variability from ice-sheet wide velocity mapping", JGlac 56(197), 2010. Ian Joughin requests that "any publication of results based on this data should cite the above paper." Since the changes were not to the actual data, the version numbers of the data sets were not changed. - Glen Granzow
